Preventing Imperfections
No one likes to wake up to a tiny new friend on their face! Here are some tips for keeping a clear, healthy complexion.
- Wash your face every morning and night with a cleanser suited for your skins needs
- Do not sleep with make up on, it will be mixed with sebum and absorb deeper into skin creating a perfect environment for imperfections to grow
- Exfoliate at least once a week with a gentle exfoliant. Steer clear of fruit pit/nut exfoliants as they can cause micro abrasions, which can lead to the spread of imperfections and irritate sensitive capillaries
- Moisturize every day with a moisturizer for your skin type, whatever your skin type may be (Dehydrated skin can lead to imperfections by secreting more sebum to counteract for the lack of moisture. You can have oily, but dehydrated skin)
- Change your pillow case every couple days
- If you are prone to breaking out, only use fragrance free, oil free, non-comedogenic products to avoid extra oils and irritants (though I do recommend everyone use these types of products)
- Stick to oil free, non comedogenic mineral based make up
- And last but not least...Do not pick or squeeze you skin! This can cause germs to spread and create more imperfections, break or dilate capillaries and in some cases create scars
DIY
Winter weather can cause many dry skin problems. There are many easy DIY treatments you can do at home with natural product's from your kitchen. Best part..they are chemical free and cost a lot less than the spa! You also have the option of using organic foods to prepare these. Anyone with hyper sensitive skin or food allergies should always do a test patch first.
- For rough dry lips - Wet a wash cloth with warm water and gently rub dry skin from lips in a circular motion. Follow up with a heavy salve lip balm
- For rough dry hands and feet - Take 1/4 cup of fine ground sugar and mix with a couple tablespoons of olive oil. Over a sink or tub, rub this mixture into skin for a minute or so. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
- For dry, irritated facial Skin - Take 1/2 a cup of plain oatmeal (not from the individual packages) and mix in warm water and one tablespoon of honey. Apply a light layer to clean, damp skin. Let sit for 10 mins. Rinse and apply an oil free, fragrance free moisturizer.
